Mr. Johnny J. Wright

Sunrise: December 7, 1937 | Sunset: June 9, 2022

With a heavy heart, the Wright, Kennedy, Gbortoe, Burke, Newman, Coleman, Taylor, Menyee, Yekeh. Dowingar and Gargar families announce with profound regrets the homegoing of their father, grandfather, great grandfather, brother, uncle, cousin, and friend Maj. Johnny J. Wright (Rtd. AFL). This sad event occurred on June 9, 2022, in Staten Island, NY.

JJ Wright, as he is affectionately known, is survived by his children James D. Wright, Joan Wright, Joyce Wright, Velma T. Wright-Yekeh, William Burke, Mayatu Burke, Helen Gibson-Newman, Malbert D. Coleman, Josephine Wright, Cathryne Wright, Alex, Ben Wright, Charles Wright, Abraham Wright, and Juanita Mends-cole Porte.

Grandchildren: Boriz Glahnyongar Wright, Delvin Tekohn Wright, Otis Wright, Viola Wright, Zylyne Ajavon, Malik Harris, Manaya Harris, Lorraine Kennedy, Jaclyn Kennedy, Bradley Burke, Monsio Burke, Jermaine Newman, Jerome Newman, Iviola Newman, Korpo Jonel Daniels, Albirdee Richardson, Moses Yekeh Jr., Taneisha Yekeh.

Great-grandchildren: Landen McLary, Skia Haman, Arianna Jestina Burke, Michelle Denae Burke, William Arris Miller, and Kayden Elijah Massaboi.

Brother; Matthew Menyee. Sister:  Kinnie. Foster sister: Nancy Green. Nephew: Albert Wright, Abel Menyee, Marcus Menyee, Sumo Menyee, Cooper Gargar, Kargo Gargar, Philip Gargar, and Micah Gargar. Niece: Vida Mae Wright, Darlene Flahnma, Annie Kpawee,  Mammie Morris, and Miatta Bangoura. He also leaves to mourn many nieces, nephews, cousins, friends, and extended families.

He was predeceased in death by his parents, John and Mammie Menyee and his adoptive mother, Etta Wright, his son Johnny J. Wright Jr., his wife Jestina Coleman-Wright, his brothers, David K. Wright, David Menyee, Benjamin Menyee, and Peter Menyee; his sisters Sayblee, Wrouwon, Mondamar, Neeturmar, and Glagbormar.
