DR. JOHN ELIJAH McCARTHY

SUNRISE: MAY 3, 1972 SUNSET: JUNE 9, 2022

With heavy hearts, the McCarthy and Henries families mourn the tragic loss of our son, husband, brother, uncle, son-in-law, brother-in-law, and father, Dr. John Elijah McCarthy. John died in a tragic motor vehicle accident on Thursday, June 9, 2022, in Lebanon, Pennsylvania, USA.

John was born in Camp Belle Yella, Lofa County, Liberia, on May 3, 1972, unto the union of Col. John Edward McCarthy & Yamah Kollie McCarthy.  He started his pre-school in Camp Bella Yella, Lofa County. His family later moved to Monrovia where he enrolled in Paynesville Community School, then St. Philips Ecumenical School in Gardnersville.  John later enrolled at the J.D.K Baker Episcopal Mission School in Bong Mines, Liberia. Upon completing Junior High School at JDK, he enrolled at Monrovia College Industrial School on Camp Johnson Road, Monrovia, Liberia, where he completed High School. He attended college at the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science & Technology, Kumasi, Ghana; and attended Graduate School at Carleton University, Ottawa, Ontario; and Walden University, USA, where he will be awarded his PhD in absentia on June 25, 2022.

John was predeceased by his father, Col. John Edward McCarthy; his mother, Yamah Kollie McCarthy; and his brothers, Sam McCarthy & Mark McCarthy.

John leaves to mourn his loss the following persons: his wife of 13 years, Helga Henries-McCarthy; his children, Lois, Andrew, Ameliah, Elisha & Jotham; grandchildren: Otis Praise, Loitis, Langston, and Samuel; his siblings: Walter, Feta, Edward, Hilton, Gloria, Saveh, and Thomas; aunties, uncles, cousins, nephews, nieces, sisters-in-law, brothers-in-law; and a host of other relatives and friends in Canada, United States, Australia, Africa, Europe, and other parts of the world.

John touched many lives very deeply. He was a person with enormous faith in God. The world has truly lost a citizen. May his soul rest in perfect peace!
