COMFORT DUWLI DUEH TOE

The Toe, Dueh, and Nimley families announce with profound sadness the death of Mrs. Comfort Duwli Dueh Toe of the United States of America (Newark, New Jersey; Columbus, Georgia; and Farmington Hills, Michigan) and Grandcess, Grand Kru County, Liberia West Africa. This sad event occurred on Sunday, March 22, 2020 at the home of her loving daughter and caring son-in-law (Patricia & Charles) in Farmington Hills, Michigan due to natural cause. She was born on August 23, 1930, unto the union of the late Daniel Jleh Dueh and the late Florence Tuwlo Nimley Dueh of Grandcess, Kru Coast Territory (now Grand Kru County), and went to eternal rest at the age of 89 years.

The late Comfort Duwli Dueh Toe was a faithful Christian and Roman Catholic by denomination. After she immigrated to the United States in 1989 to be with her children immediately after the death of her husband in Liberia, she worshipped at St. Mary’s of the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Newark, NJ. During her long stay in Columbus, Georgia, she worshipped at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church where she was a Congregational Greeter / Usher, Reciter of the Rosary, Member of the Committee that visit the sick, shut-in and disabled, as well as Member of the Pastoral Catholic Council of Women (PCCW). While briefly in Farmington Hills, MI she worshiped at Our Lady of Sorrows Catholic Church..

The late Comfort Duwli Dueh Toe was a Member of the Parish Council and Vice President of the Financial Council of St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Grandcess. She was Foundation Member, Recording/Corresponding Secretary, Treasurer and Financial Secretary of the Holy Family Ladies Auxiliary #390 of the Knights of St. John International ( KSJI), as well as Assistant Treasurer of the Catholic Credit Union in Grandcess.

Comfort Duwli Dueh Toe obtained her early education at the James Robertson United Methodist Church Kindergarten and Elementary Schools in Grandcess, Liberia, and received a Diploma from the House of Bethany/Saint John’s Episcopal Schools in Robertsport, Grand Cape Mount County, Liberia. She later completed rigorous teacher training programs administered by the Government of Liberia Department of Public Instruction ( now Ministry of Education) in Cape Palmas, Maryland County, Liberia. She eventually became a first-class educator in Grandcess; serving as a public school teacher for 32 years at the James T. Nimley Kindergarten School and Plenyenoh Gbe (P.G.) Wollor Elementary School.

Comfort Duwli Dueh married Teacher J. Blamo Toe, a devout Roman Catholic and Foundation Member of KSJI Commanderies in Monrovia, Cape Palmas and Grandcess, in February 1954 at the St. Theresa’s Cathedral (seat of the Diocese of Cape Palmas) in Harper City, Maryland County, Liberia.

In addition, she was a home economics instructor at the School of Home Arts in Grandcess operated by her late sister, Eliza Miehdi Dueh Nah. There she helped impact vocational skills to orphaned, poor, needy and vulnerable young girls, and women, including instruction in sewing and crocheting, fashion design, and interior decoration. She and her husband reared several relatives and young people as their own children ; and many became productive parents, guardian and contributors to society. She was a small businesswoman, and a leading member of Baaiporh, a women’s social and empowerment group.

The late Comfort Duwli Dueh Toe leaves to mourn her; Children: Regina Wehtee Toe Gaye, Josephine Juwrehdi Smallwood (Ben), J. Chris Toe, PhD (Jeannine), Francis Wreh Toe, Al Gbi Toe, Sr., Khloe Toe, Stanley Nimley Toe, Siemo Toe ( Josephine) , Patricia Fano Toe Reeves (Charles), Mensah Toe (Patricia), Duwli Toe, Augusta Blapoh Toe Marsh (Ishmael) and Teplah Toe Wesseh (Philip); several Grandchildren: Stanley Aloysius Gaye, Beatrice Toe Weah, Benita Smallwood, Wedeh Smallwood, Odeleia Toe, Gbiba Toe, Miehdi Toe, J.C. Toe, Andy J. Toe, Snortee Toe , Siemo Toe, Jr.,  etc.; a number of Great-grandchildren; maternal nieces: Mary Torh Bropleh and Dr. Elizabeth Davis Russell, PhD; and a host of relatives in the USA, Liberia, and other parts of the world.

The late Comfort Duwli Dueh Toe was predeceased by her Husband, J. Blamo Toe,  Supervisor of Schools, Kru Coast Territory/ Assistant Supervisor of Schools, Maryland County; Children, Basil Kroteh Toe and Barbara Benedicta Kukor Toe; Parents, Daniel Jleh Dueh and Florence Nimley Tuwlo Dueh; Siblings, Josephine Juwrehdi Dueh Nah, Fano Dueh, Diana Klaleh Dueh, Eliza Miehdi Dueh Nah, Gbarseh Dueh and Snehwion Dueh ; Nephews, Athanasius T. Nah, S. Boniface Nah, Eric Miehdi Himie Nuefville, PhD, and Michael K. Nah; Family Guardians, James T. N. Nimley,  Albert W. Nimley, Sr., Dan T. Bropleh, Dr. Francis Bropleh, Nathaniel Kumeh, Sr., Nyanfor Bornyenoh, Beatrice Memeh  Bedell; and many faithful departed  uncles, aunties, nephews, nieces, cousins and in-laws, among others.

May the soul of our family matriarch, mother, aunty, cousin and friend rest in eternity!

Holy Mass for the Repose of the Soul of the late Comfort Duwli Dueh Toe held Saturday, August 22, 2020 @ 10:00am, St. Patrick’s Catholic Church ( Diocese of Cape Palmas), Grandcess, Liberia.

Mass of the Resurrection held Saturday, August 22, 2020 @ 10:00 am, The Catholic Parish of the Transfiguration ( Archdiocese of Newark), Newark, New Jersey, USA

Vigil Mass for the Deceased will be held Tuesday, March 16, 2021 @10:00am, Sacred Heart Cathedral ( Archdiocese of Monrovia), Monrovia, Montserrado County, Liberia

Requiem Mass will be held Saturday, March 20, 2021 @ 10:00am, St. Patrick’s Catholic Church, Grandcess. , Grand Kru County, Liberia

Interment : The late Comfort Duwli will be laid to final rest alongside her late husband, J. Blamo Toe, at the St. Patrick’s Church Cemetery in Grandcess, Liberia ( her city and country of origin).
