Mary Sancea Thomas

The Thomas, Sancea, Flamma and Weah families sadly announce the sudden passing away of their mother, stepmother, grandmother, great grandmother, aunt and cousin, Mary Sancea Thomas. She was ill for a brief period and was called home to be with her Maker.
Mary Sancea Thomas was born on April 15, 1935, in the city of Harper, Maryland County as a gift from God to Charles B. Sancea, II, and Nancy Barleh Weah, who predeceased her. She was the only child of her mother. As an only child, wanting the best for her, and ensuring that she grew up in the Sancea family with other siblings and cousins, she lived with her father’s sisters: Victoria Sancea Hardy and later Mary Sancea Evans Wilson and became very close to her third Aunt, Maria Sancea Langley (Aunt Moriah).

Mom had 4 siblings – one brother, Charles B. Sancea, III, and 4 sisters; Charlotte Sancea Tyler, Etta Sancea Hoff, and Victoria Sancea (Vicky), all of whom predeceased her.  They were all raised by their spirit-filled aunts of great virtue and principles. Their lives in their homes, society and the church demonstrated these qualities. Mom was later married to David G. Flamma Thomas who predeceased her in 2006.  This marriage was blessed with many children (20) of which 13 were her biological children.

Mourning her death are her children: Benny Thomas (Esther); Charles Thomas (Jane); Louise Thomas-Mapleh; Diana Thomas-Sheriff (Dr. Mohammed Sheriff); Floyd Thomas (Ruth); Jacob Thomas (Denise); Lavoisier Thomas (Massa); Ogunjobi Thomas; Judge Lucrezia Thomas-Anderson; Josephine Thomas Wachekwa (Dr. Ian Wachekwa).  Her other children include Sophia Thomas; Earnest Thomas and
Malaweh V. Thomas; 40 grandchildren, 12 great grandchildren; many nieces (including Mai Tyler-Cooper who she demanded to speak to before she left this world), nephews, cousins (including Mildred Evans Itoka who called her all the time) and a host of relatives and friends in Liberia, USA, and other countries in the world.

Mom was predeceased by her following children: David G. “Armyboy” Thomas; Victor Thomas; Aloysius (CoCo) Thomas; Kesse Thomas and Rufus Thomas.  She was also predeceased by her other children Rose Thomas Pajibo and Yei Thomas.

Due to Covid-19 pandemic and social distancing guidelines set by the government of Liberia, seating at the church will be limited.  The church requires everyone attending to wear a mask throughout the service.  While we greatly appreciate your attendance in sharing this time with us during this bereavement period, we ask your cooperation in honoring our mom by following the rules that will be enforced by the church.  We thank you for understanding.

We thank God for the life our mom lived and may light perpetual shine on her.
