FUNERAL AND INTERMENT OF

MRS. JANJAY OLIVE BENSON-SHARP

TO BE HELD ON SATURDAY, OCTOBER 24, 2020

“I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith. Now there is in store for me the crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous Judge, will award to me on that day—and not only to me, but also to all who have longed for his appearing.”
2 Timothy 4:7-8

It is with heavy hearts and profound sadness that the Benson, Clinton, Ballah, Harmon and Kicmett families announce the home-going of our beloved mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, niece, cousin, and friend, Mrs. Janjay Olive Benson Sharp. Janjay peacefully transitioned from this earthly life into her eternal heavenly rest on Wednesday, September 16, 2020 at the Delaware County Memorial Hospital in Drexel Hill, Pennsylvania, USA.

Janjay was a woman of unwavering faith in God. Her deep love and devotion to her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, even at the end of her life left a lasting impression that will forever be ingrained in our memories.

Janjay was a servant of God and she served Him with the many gifts He endowed her with, one of which was her soaring alto voice. She was a dedicated member of the Christian Baptist Church (CBC) of Silver Spring, MD, a committed choir member of the CBC Senior Choir, a member of the International Gospel Translators of the Eliza Turner AME Church in Monrovia, Liberia and a member of the University of Liberia Alumni Chorus.

Janjay was hardworking and very resourceful. Her love for her dear family, near and far, was a high priority. Her love and affection for her treasured friends was well known. A selfless “people person,” Janjay was well loved, and she opened her heart, hands, and home to many. Her joyous spirit, sparkling eyes, her big smile, joyous laugh, the outstanding acts of kindness, and her deep love of singing with her wonderful rousing alto will always remain with us.

Janjay leaves to celebrate her life her dear family; her two daughters, Kormassa Rachel Ballah-Kicmett (Larry Kicmett); her beloved grandchildren who were her pride and joy, Tetee S. Kicmett and Aloysius S. Kicmett, her elder sister who was a mother figure to her, Ms. Annie Musu Benson; her other siblings, David S. Benson, Jr., Beauty Benson, and Comfort D. Benson; her beloved nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, cousins and a host of other relatives in Liberia and the United States. Also celebrating the life of Janjay is a close circle of dear friends, some of whom have been close childhood sister-friends, and each with their own special relationship with her.

She was predeceased by her Father, Mr. David S. Benson, Sr., her Mother Mrs. Dwane Payne Benson, and her siblings: Richard Benson, Fred S. Benson, Zoe Benson-Gray, and Julia Benson-Gbar.

Dear Sister Olive, Mama, Mommy Doll, Sis. Janjay, Sis. Olive, Aunty Olive, as you were affectionately known by, we find comfort knowing that your soul is resting in perfect, joyful peace with Christ, who was the love of your life. Thank you for the indispensable part you played in all of our lives. We love you and will never forget you. Rest well with your God who loves you so dearly.
