Anna Lucretia Sherman Richards

It is with profound sadness, that the Richards, Sherman, Barclay and Roberts families announce the peaceful passing of their matriarch, Anna Lucretia Sherman Richards. This sad event occurred on Thursday, September 2, 2021, at the home of her daughter Joann Richards Abrams.

She was surrounded by family and transitioned from this earth knowing how very much she was loved. Mommy lived a rich and fulfilling life for 94 years, and we are very blessed to have had her in our lives.

She was pre-deceased by her parents, Sarah Elizabeth Barclay Sherman and Reginald A. Sherman, Sr., her husband of 64 years, Joseph G. Richards, her siblings, Caroline Sherman David, Arthur Sherman, Sr., Clavenda Sherman Bright, Charles Dunbar Sherman, Reginald A. Sherman, Jr., Robert Sherman, Florence Sherman Peal, Henry Sherman, Anthony, Frank Sherman, Frederick (Bobby) Sherman, Edwin K. Sherman, Habersham Sherman and her daughters, Louise Reeves and Pereta Summerville.

Mommy leaves to mourn her loss, her children: Marbue and Gleneda Richards, Wiyata Richards, Chauncey and Joann Abrams, Carl and Alison Richards, Joseph and Dawn Tolbert, Curtis and Etna Richards along with her other children Philomena Massaquoi, Ciapha and Sarah Moore, Hawa Haick and Helen Holmes. She will also be sorely missed by her grandchildren: Kuleh, Tianna (Binyah), Monica, Tasha (Troy), Marneda (Wayne), Pereta, Chelsey, Joseph R., Chauncey, Chaunell, Dominique, Joseph T., Orion, David, Dawn, Robert, Gabrielle, Zainab, Mawata, Louise and Yvonne twenty-four great-grandchildren and ten godchildren. Also, mourning her loss are her sisters: Eva (Joseph), Miatta, Augusta (Edwin), Miatta and Willyet, Malia Gray Richards and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

We would like to say a special thank you to our sisters, Joann and Dawn, Martha Miller and our niece Chaunell for the extra care and love they gave our mother during her last years. We know there are so many of you who were special to her and we thank you for the love and attention you have shown her over the years. Every prayer, visit, call, card, bouquet of flowers, box of chocolate and game of chicken foot meant SO much to her.

In light of the COVID pandemic, the family will not be holding a public funeral service and we trust you will respect this decision as we prepare to send our mother off.
