Mr. Bebe B. Massaquoi

My fellow Liberians and friends:

It is with deepest regret and sorrow that I write to inform you of the death of Bebe B. Massaquoi of Los Angeles.

At 17:23 hours on Wednesday, July 09, 2008 Bebe B. Massaquoi was pronounced dead at Kaiser Permanente Hospital located on Sunset Blvd in Los Angeles, CA. Bebe succumbed to complications resulting from a month long episode of acute illness. During this month-long period Bebe remained unconscious and on life support until the sad end today.

Bebe Massaquoi leaves to morn his death, a large community of life-long friends and a host of siblings and other relatives both in the US and Liberia. Bebe will truly be missed by all of us who love him dearly and everyone whose life he touched while on this Earth.

Indeed he did touch many lives over the past 28 years. Those of us who have known and worked with Bebe over the years will remember him as one of the founding members of what is now The Liberian-American Community Association of Southern California (LACOSC). Prior to the official berth of LACOSC, Bebe held several elected positions in our Liberian community organization including Treasurer, Board Member and various committee chairmanships.

Bebe was a very progressive Liberian community leader and a businessman. Many of you will remember his chain of children's clothing stores (KIDS TOO, Inc) operated in four prestigious malls for which he personally developed the business model and managed up to four stores at various points in time with great success. In my view Bebe set the trend that was later copied by the big name store like "Gap Kids Too" and other names that you see today. Fellow Liberians, one of our great leaders has fallen!

Above all Bebe B. Massaquoi will be remembered as a reliable and loyal friend who tried to help others whenever he could and never back talked anyone. Of course, I know this because he was my personal friend; but other members of the Liberian community can attest to Bebe's warm and lasting friendships with the many people he came in contact with. We will really miss Bebe sincerely.
