“I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith. Now there is in store for me the crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous Judge, will award to me on that day—and not only to me, but also to all who have longed for his appearing.” 2 Timothy 4:7-8
It is with deep sorrow that the Freeman/Fahnbulleh, Hoff, Diggs, Reeves, and Tamba families announce the death of Mr. William Amara Bako Freeman, affectionately called BB, Bill, Borbor, William, Daddy, Grandpa, etc. He transitioned from this earthly life into his eternal heavenly rest on Saturday, August 21, 2021, in Minnesota, USA.
Daddy was born in Robertsport, Grand Cape Mount County in Liberia on June 24, 1943 unto the union of Henry Boakai Freeman, Sr. and Emily DeWitte Hoff Freeman and lived there until the age of 12 when he moved to Monrovia. In Monrovia, he excelled in school and graduated as the head of his class from Laboratory High. As a result of his academic endeavors, Daddy attended the University of Minnesota twice to obtain bachelor’s and master’s degrees in Mineral Engineering. He began his professional career at his treasured Bureau of Mines, which became Ministry of Lands and Mines. While working at Lands and Mines, he also taught at William V.S. Tubman High School for several years. Daddy faithfully served Liberia for over 30 years, ultimately becoming Minister of Lands, Mines and Energy. In 1990, because of the civil war, he and his family left Liberia and settled in Minnesota.
Daddy, your work on earth is done. Go and take your rest. We thank God for the time HE gave you to us. May your soul rest in perpetual peace and may light perpetual shine upon you. We love you always.
He leaves behind his darling wife and faithful partner of almost fifty-two (52) years, Famata Tamba Freeman; his children Wil Bako Freeman (Tonia), Wokie Freeman-Gbogba (Agic), and Kaymah Tamba; his cherished grandchildren (Aisha, Triana, Sedia, Laila, Kendia, and Rejoice). He also leaves to mourn his siblings, Masa E. Freeman, Clarissa P. Freeman-Blegay (Robert), George L. Freeman (Alecia) and Famatta Walker Freeman; his uncle, Dr. William S. Hoff, and aunts, Emma Knuckles Hoff, Annie Diggs Neal, and Robertetta A. Diggs. His predeceased siblings include Henry Boakai Freeman, Jr. and McDonald Feweh Freeman. He will be missed by countless brothers- and sisters-in-law, cousins, nieces, nephews and friends in Liberia, the United Kingdom, and the USA. His life touched many and we all mourn his loss.
