BONIE KANDAKAI-FREEMAN
The
Freeman, Kandakai and Sombai families announce yet again the
home going of another pillar of their families. Mrs. Sando
Bonie Kandakai-Freeman died on Tuesday, June 24, 2008, at
Doctors’ Community Hospital in Lanham, Maryland, after
a brief illness. She died as she and other relatives were
concluding funeral arrangements for her husband, Mr. Edwin
Varney Gbese Freeman, who died on Sunday, June 15, 2008 at
his residence in Tubmanburg, Bomi County, Liberia. They were
married for 61 years.
Mrs.
Sando Bonie Kandakai-Freeman, a Muslim, was buried at George
Washington Mount Lebanon Cemetery in Adelphi, Maryland, on
Friday, June 27.
Ma
Sando, as she was affectionately called, was born in Jundu,
Garwula District, Grand Cape Mount County on July 14, 1931,
unto the union of Zukeh Kandakai and Bonie Kandakai. She was
visiting the United States at the urging of her children to
seek medical treatment for a heart ailment when she died.
Called
a “tough” disciplinarian, Ma Sando reared many children
including her own, with many today being thankful for having
been beneficiaries of her tenacity for good upbringing. She
will be sorely missed by her many loved ones, acquaintances
and friends. As children, grandchildren, great grandchildren,
nieces, nephews, we will miss Ma Sando, but we are thankful
for the good life she lived. Her touches will not be felt
physically anymore, but we cherish the memories of her smiles,
cautioning, good heart and her constant advice to us to be
kind, forgiving and to love others indiscriminately as God
loves us.
She
leaves to mourn her death several children, including many
whom she fostered, several grandchildren and four great grandchildren.
Two children predeceased her.
