With profound sadness, the Chea family announces the passing of matriarch Mary Gbardee Dorothy Chea.
She was a beloved and dutiful mother figure within her family, her community and her career. She was affectionately called “Mommy” by friends and family, many of whom benefitted from her nurturing and support. She worked as a midwife for 30 years in Liberia, aiding in the birth of generations of Liberians.
She passed away peacefully at home on March 7, 2021, surrounded by her children and her sister, in Charlotte, N.C. She was 90.
She is survived by a sister, Catherine; a brother, Abel; a daughter, Peaches; sons, Winston, Douglas, Daniel, Momolu, William and Arnold; grandchildren, Douglas Jr., Sunny Marie, Jairel, Ricardo, Ricarzie, Danielle, Yatta, Amber, Trooper, Tinisee, Zhane; 14 great grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews; and a host of cousins and dear friends.
She was strong, steadfast, dependable, kind and giving. She was also a servant to her children, family, her community and those she met.
