Rebekah “Yan-go-ve-yan” Kathleen Scotland

Sunrise (September 1, 1954) - Sundown (October 19, 2021)

This is the day, which the Lord hath made; we will rejoice and be glad in it.

It is with profound sadness that the Scotland and Sangare families announce the home going of our beloved Mother, grandmother, Wife, Sister, Aunty, Cousin and Friend, Rebekah “Yan-go-ve-yan” Kathleen Scotland.

The sad event occurred on October 19, 2021 in Elkton, Maryland. Rebekah was a caring, and dedicated Mother not only to her children, but also to her nieces, nephews and others. She was a woman with a solid faith in God and a strong confidence in God’s healing power. Rebekah was a devoted member of the Macedonia Church of Christ in Newark, New Jersey. Her children, family and friends will miss her.

Rebekah was employed as a broadcaster in 1979 by ELBC in Liberia, West Africa. She worked for ELBC until the 1990 Civil War. Rebekah was trained as a broadcast journalist in Cairo, Egypt.

She leaves to mourn her husband, Daouda Sangare. Her loving Children: Deborah Steele, Kofa G. Freeman, Jr. and Fatou Sangare. Her precious grandchildren: Tzar M. walker, Lorraine Rebekah Freeman, Evan-Anthony G. Freeman III, and Ian E. Freeman. Siblings: Apan Scotland-Harris, James Victor Scotland (Mariane). Nieces: Evelyn Scotland-Jones (Eddie), Theresa, Sieahene, Lucinda, Ladybryd, Honey and Blessing. Nephews: John, Topee Sayon (Bernice), Ellington, Cousins, friends and a host of other relatives.

Funeral services are schedule for Saturday, November 27, 2021 at Calvary Baptist Church,
66 South Grove Street, East Orange, NJ 07081

Viewing starts at 9am follow by the funeral services. Immediately thereafter, Interment follows at
Rosedale Cemetery, 750 E. Linden Avenue, Linden, NJ 07036
