Edina, Grand Bassa

There are many things I enjoy about being home in Liberia, and this canoe ride across the Melkin, St. John and the Benson Rivers from Edina to upper Buchanan is one of them. We took the 21 mile road from Compound 1 to Edina, and a 15 minute canoe ride to cross the 3 rivers where they merge and flow into the Atlantic Ocean. We are sitting low, the canoe is being pushed off into the Melkin River

These guys make their living off the river, fishing for fish and crawfish

 

You can easily distinguish one river from the next. Each one has a different color. We are going from the St. John river into the Benson River
