Snap Shots from a trip to Lofa County, Liberia

March 2008

CARI - Central Agricultural Research Institute

Soukoko, Bong County

The roof of this building at CARI was still on and fully intact in September 2006. Within 4 days it was completely unroofed by rogues. What is amazing is that UNMIL is occupying sections of CARI and has a security check point down the road that provide access to this facility which continues to be looted today. The question everyone is asking is why UNMIL doesn't do anything about it. The answer is UNMIL says it is not their responsiblity.

The damage to this 101 room facility continues. These are fresh attempts to root up the tiles. The tiles get damage in the process and becomes useless, but they continue to do it, in the meantime UNMIL sits down the road, stopping no one and doing nothing about it. I guess the security checkpoint at the entrance is just to stop people from stealing UNMIL property.

UNMIL PLEASE!

UNMIL Security Check point into CARI reads "Custodian of discipline". While a beautiful 101 room facility in the section of CARI compound that UNMIL occupies continues to be looted "Go figure"

UNMIL, please help stop the continuous looting of CARI.
