Mrs. LUCRETIA “MA LUE” WILLIAMS

It is with the deepest of sadness that the children of Lucretia Williams announce to the public the peaceful home-going of their mother in the 92nd year of her life. This sad but expected occurrence in life took place in Newark, New Jersey, on Wednesday March 3, 2010 at 6:15 AM.

As a young person, Mrs. Williams studied and qualified as a midwife nurse and worked for LAMCO in that capacity for more than two decades. As a midwife nurse, Mrs. Williams presided over the births of countless number of children, some of whom returned to LAMCO as employees and saw their own children born under the professional supervision of this remarkable woman. In addition to this, the home of Mrs. Williams became a place where the students of Carroll High School and footballers from Monrovia congregated for weekends. As a result, everybody took to her as a mother and she affectionately became known as “Ma Lue.”

Mrs. Williams is survived by her children, Mrs. Jerusha-Davis of Newark, New Jersey, Marbue Williams of Minnesota, and Mrs. Carmen Williams-Wisseh of New York City, two nieces, Evelyn Wright-Garnette and Vivian Wright-Barnes, niece-in-law Annie Wright, sister-in-laws Chinko Williams and Edna Bailey and other relatives too many to name. Also surviving her are grandchildren Decontee Davis of Atlanta, Georgia, Jaytornah Nyankun Wisseh, Kunnuh- Gbeh Wisseh, Nyonty Dabah Wisseh of New York and her son-in-laws, Lee Davis and Benedict Wisseh. Her husband, Mr. Charles G. Williams, died in 1995. Her only siblings, Theodosia Peal- Wright and Sen. Alfred Raynes, nephews Tommy Raynes, Arnold Wright, and Raymond Wright predeceased her. The burial of Mrs. Williams will take place in Newark, New Jersey, on March 20, 2010. After wake Keeping activities will continue at the Liberian Community Center on 122 Roseville Ave Newark, NJ 07107.
