The
Toles, Tarpeh, Capehart, Johnson, Banks family
regrets to announce the death of Retired Colonel
James E. Toles, Sr. in his 76th year. This sad
event occurred on February 28, 2011 at Thomas
Jefferson University Hospital in Philadelphia,
Pennsylvania, after a two and half year battle.
He is survived by his wife Edna Bickersteth
Toles, his children: Edward J. Harris, Jr. (Lucy),
Amanda C. Lawrence (Simeon), Alfreda N. Taplah
(Ambrose), Theresa N. Toles, Roselyn H. Nanka
(Winsley), Henry Somah (Comfort), Martha R.
Toles, James E. Toles, Jr. (Zainabu), Estella
Toles Roberts (Charles), Janice Toles Kromah
(Spc. Molley), several grand children and nine
great-grandchildren. He is also survived by
one sister, Margaret Banks-Pratts, two sisters-
in- law, Gladys B. Grant, Evelyn B. Smith, several
nieces and nephews, including Olive Johnson-Cooper,
Amb. Wesley M. Johnson, Wellington A. Capehart,
Maybelline Tarpeh-Lloyd, and a host of relatives
and friends.
