Sunrise: February 17, 1923 Sunset: July 18, 2020
“I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith. Now there is in store for me the crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous Judge, will award to me on that day—and not only to me, but also to all who have longed for his appearing.” 2 Timothy 4:7-8
It is with deep sorrow that the Tamba, Diggs, Reeves, and Freeman families announce the death of Mrs. Etmira Madia Diggs Tamba, affectionately called Mommy, Mommy Grand, Titi Mira, Cousin Etmira, Titi, Aunt Mira, and Godma Etmira. Life was never going to be the same for Mommy as she grieved the unexpected loss of her darling son, Munya V. Tamba, on June 2nd. She transitioned from this earthly life into her eternal heavenly rest on Saturday, July 18, 2020, after a short stay at Catholic Hospital in Monrovia, Liberia.
Mommy was born in Hartford, St. John River City, Grand Bassa County and attended St. Peter Claver Catholic School. She later moved to Monrovia and enrolled in the Nursing Program at the Old Government Hospital. She was married to her loving husband, Kolli Selleh Tamba, I., former Counsellor of State of the Republic of Liberia, who predeceased her in 1959. Over time, she became a businesswoman having a number of transport vehicles and other ventures. Mommy was an Associate Matron of Queen Esther Chapter No. 7, St. John River City of the Order of the Eastern Star and a member of several other social organizations.
She began another chapter in her life when she left Liberia during the civil conflict in 1990 and moved to Minnesota with her daughter’s family. Tired of Minnesota winters, she returned to Liberia in 2011 to spend time with family and friends.
Mommy was a faithful member of the Episcopal Church Women (ECW) of St. Stephen's Episcopal Church (Liberia) and a member of United Christian Fellowship Church (Minnesota).
At the ripe age of 97 years old, Mommy was still a fashionista. Her class and style will be remembered by all who knew her. A selfless “people person”, Mommy was well loved and opened her heart, hands, and home to many.
Mrs. Etmira Madia Diggs Tamba was preceded in death by her parents Ella Reeves Diggs and Charles Henry Diggs; husband Kolli Selleh Tamba, I.; aunt Ora Horace Mason; sisters Edna Violet (EV) Reeves, and Benetta Diggs Reeves; children Joseph Tamba, Robert Tamba, Hawa Tamba, Momolu Tamba, and Munya V. Tamba; close cousins and friends Baldwin Reeves, Marylue Reeves, Janie Reeves Smith, Gracie Reeves Brownell, Ella Hall, Alliette Benson Jones, Julia Foss, Annie Dennis, Catherine Vincent, Myrline Gbarbea, and many other cherished relatives and friends.
