With profound sadness, the Hill, Davis, Stewart, Jones, Eagle, Peavy, and Richardson families announce the passing of their mother, grandmother, sister, sister-in-love, aunt, niece, and cousin Mrs. Shirley Hawah Umgebia Davis Stewart on Monday, December 14, 2020 at the Northwest Hospital in Randallstown, Maryland. Mommy (also affectionately called Mom Shirley, Grandma Shirley, Sister Gebia, Sis. Shirley, Aunty Shirley, and Lil’ Shirley) by her family members and fellow Suehnites) was born on October 30, 1944 unto the union of Chief Varney Hill and Massa Hill in the village of Weawolo, Bomi County, Republic of Liberia. At the tender age of three weeks, Chief Varney gave baby Gebia to be raised by the American missionary, Mattie Mae Davis at the Suehn Industrial Mission where she completed her primary and secondary education. She later attended and graduated from Cuttington University. While at Cuttington, she met and later married her one and only true love, the late John Henry Boikai Stewart, Jr. in 1966.
Shirley leaves to cherish her precious memories her children: Ahamadou Varsey Stewart,
Siatta Mae Stewart Diggs (Melvin Papu), Steven Moisema Stewart (Stacy), and Peter
Tokolon; grandchildren JonMarie Kiana Gebia Stewart, Kyonee Legend-Saye Stewart,
and Landon Ashley-Yanquah Stewart.
Her siblings, Zoe Davis Traub and Mannah East (Ruth), only surviving brother, both of Monrovia, Liberia;
Her sisters-in-love and brothers-in-love, Mabel Hill, Jemima Roberts, Elizabeth Z. Stewart, Quentin B. Stewart, Sr. (Wokie), Wallace Stewart (Agnes), Frank V. Stewart (Kroh), Mary Stewart, Maima Stewart Brown (Charles), Favour McCarthy (aka Lady Stewart), Rev. Gbessi and Esther Kemah, Grace Richardson, Nathaniel Richardson, Vera Addison, Missionary Verlene Goatley, Carolyn Logan, Semeta and Moisema Dorley, Oretha and Edwin Peal, Etmonia David, Christine T. Norman, Joetta Dennis, Dr. James T. Tarpeh, Frances Hayes, Gwendolyn Wilson, Christiana Tah, Julie Blanton, Pearl and Paul Sulongteh, Westley Blocker, Eva Haynes, and many others.
In addition, her biological parents, adopted mother, foster parents (Mary Peavy Eagle and Isaac T. Eagle), siblings Kaifa Hill, Momo Hill, Jusu Hill, Hawa Hill, Barwolo H. Taylor, Sumo Hill, Fatu H. Simeon, T.V. Jones, Samuel D. Hill, Nellie J. Gray, Edward Hill, Bibi Roberts, Sr., Ballah Davis, Imogene M. Collins, sisters-in-love Marie Stewart Eke, Roseline Stewart, Kpakay Davis, Thelma Sawyer, Annette Henry, Geneva Fubara, Shirley Lawrence and brothers-in-love Stanley M. Stewart, Edwin Stewart, Charles Stewart, William Sawyer, Pasha Davis, Dr. Dumah Traub, and Elmer Smith (among several others) predeceased her.
Also, she was dearly loved by her nieces, nephews, grand-nieces, grand-nephews,
cousins, foster children and a host of many relatives, friends, students, and her Firestone Plantations Company family.
