The
Honorable, Dr. Theophilus Nimley Sonpon, Sr.
The Sonpon and Gibson families announce with profound
regrets the death and home going of honorable Dr. Theophilus
Nimley Sonpon.
Dr. Sonpon was born on November 25, 1931 in Dutukpo, Draoh
(Dra-O), Sinoe County, unto the union of Mr. David Dormoh
Sonpon and Madame Wleh Juah Sonpon. He died on December 6,
2011 at 6:20 P.M. at the St. Joseph's Catholic Hospital in
Monrovia, Liberia.
He
leaves to mourn his loss, his wife of forty five (45) years,
Mrs. Angeline Louise Gibson-Sonpon, his children: Cynthia
Gbardee Sonpon-Oduwole (husband, John Oduwole), Christine
Sonpon-Freeman (husband, Caesar Freeman), Adeline Nyonoh-
Nagbe Sonpon, Theophilus Nimely Sonpon, II, Winston Jarrett
(wife, Lillian). He was also blessed with several other children,
including David Sonpon, Augusta Sonpon, Felecia Sonpon, Richard
Gibson, Debra Gibson, Edwina Gibson-Anderson ( husband, Emmanuel
Anderson), Sarah Gibson, John Gibson and Edwin Gibson.
GRAND
CHILDREN: Twenty seven (27) including (Cynthia's children)
Samuel, Johnette, David, Solomon, Sarah, Joshua, Jemima, Elijah-Theophilus
and Deborah (Christine's children) Theoline-Crystal, George,
Denise, Cheryl, and Caesar (Adeline's children) Prudence and
Winston (Theo's children) Wendell, Theophilus the third, Delicia
and Jasmine (David's child) Diamond.
SURVIVING
Relatives: The Sonpons, The Brodericks, Charles & Amy
Clarke, The Stubblefields, The Greaves, The Gibsons, The Randalls,
and several in-laws including Mrs. Martha Rogers, Mrs. Lucinda
Gibson-Tucker, Mrs. Irene and Frederick Gibson, Mr. Samuel
Gibson, Mr. Reginald Gibson, Mr.& Mrs. Debrick Gibson,
Ms. Marie McIntosh, Ms. Edith McIntosh, Ms. Comfort Randall-Bloyue,
and Mrs. Edith Saybachee.

Friends: Bro and Sister Eugene Shannon, Sonny and Monjay Pratt,
Dickson Blamo and Dr. Togba Nah-Tipoteh among others.
He
was former Principal, Charlotte Tolbert Memorial Academy,
Deputy Minister of Education, President, William V.S. Tubman
College of Science and Technology, Minister of Education,
Professor, Graduate School of Education, University of Liberia,
President, High School Principals Association, Junior Warden,
St. Thomas Episcopal Church, Vestryman, St. Thomas Episcopal
Church, Chairman, Sinoe County Sports Association, President,
Great Bame football Club President, Sinoe County Development
Association Executive Member, Grand Old True Whig Party Member,
J.D. K. Baker School Board Member, Board of Education, Episcopal
Diocese of Liberia, Monrovia Consolidated School System (MCSS)
amongst other positions. He obtained his BSc in Educ. from
University of Liberia, MA in Educ. from San Francisco State
College, and Doctorate from University of California, Los
Angeles. (UCLA).
