Dr. Arthur T. G. Siaway (June 3, 1949 - November 15, 2009)

It is with deep sadness that the Siaway, Gontaye and Diah families announce the home-going of our beloved Husband, Father, Grandfather, Brother, Uncle, Cousin, Friend and Professor, Dr. Arthur Tiah Gleekiah Siaway. This sad event occurred on Sunday, November 15, 2009 at Jackson Hospital in Montgomery, Alabama. Dr. Siaway was born on June 3, 1949 unto Gweh Siaway and Mernaun Siaway in Quepea, Gblor Clan in Tappita District, Nimba County, Liberia. His father and mother predeceased him.

He completed training at Zorzor Teacher Training Institute (ZTI) in 1969 and, in 1974, graduated with honors from the University of Liberia with a B. S. in Mathematics Education. He earned the Master's degree in Statistics & Economics and Ph.D. in Agriculture and Resource Economics, respectively, in 1978 and 1987 from Oregon State University in Corvallis, Oregon.

Dr. Siaway was a compassionate intellectual who lived a very humble life. He dedicated his life to serving humanity and finding ways to improve the living standards of economically disadvantaged people everywhere, particularly in Africa. As a result, he spent most of his adult life working on agricultural and economic development programs. His long and enviable list of employment and consulting history includes the government of the Republic of Liberia (as Agriculture Attaché to UNFAO - United Nations Food and Agriculture Organization, working out of the Liberian Embassy in Rome, Italy); USAID - the United States Agency for International Development; the United Nations; and Tuskegee University where he was Associate Professor of Agricultural and Resource Economics, Associate Director of International Programs, and Project Director for the USAID sponsored Tuskegee University-Sokoine University of Agriculture Linkage Project in Tanzania, to name a few.

He leaves to cherish the memory of his unconditional love and benevolence his beloved wife, Mrs. Victoria G. Siaway; their children: Yeeleau, Liamon, Ernestine, Tiah-Tay, Tarmen, Yanpue, Dovie, and Tiiwon; Eight grandchildren; his brothers and sisters: Dennis Siaway, Gartaye Wrato Mahn and Betty Gontaye; his uncles: Joseph Nuahn, Moses Diah and Samuel Diah; More than 20 nephews including Daniel B. Mahn, Sherlock Mahn, Tarkpor Kahnplay and Tommy Kahnplay; and additional scores of nieces, cousins, in-laws and hosts of other relatives, professional associates and friends in Liberia, the United States and other countries.
