Dr. Ben A. Roberts

The Roberts and Togba families announce, with profound sadness, the passing of Dr. Ben A. Roberts. This sad event occurred at 10 pm on May 21, 2020 in Rockville, MD (USA). Dr. Roberts graduated as valedictorian, Class of 1969, Kakata Rural Teacher Training Institute (KRTTI), graduated with a BS in Geography from the University of Liberia (West Africa), an MS in Economics from California State University Sacramento, (CSUS), a PhD in Geography from Arizona State University (ASU), and Special Education Core Training Program for the Blind, Blind Industries of the State of Maryland. As an educator and administrator, he spent most of his life serving the people of Liberia in various capacities including the following:

• Principal, St. Philips High School
• Assistant Professor, Department of Geography, University of Liberia
• Chairman, Department of Geography, University of Liberia
• Director-General, National Social Security & Welfare Corporation (NASSCORP)
• President, University of Liberia

He was seen by his students as a capable educator, his subordinates as an astute leader, his family as a disciplinarian, and his children as a loving father. He leaves to mourn his children: Jessica (Terence), Roberta (Charles), Ben Jr., (Joan), Jojo (Maude), Yvette (Daniel), Ilene, Ricky, Alex, Abigail, Olivia, Evelyn, Massaleng, Tohgar, Wanda Joe, Bannie Smith-Thomas, 21 grand-children, a host of foster children, friends/brothers – Ernest Toto, John Davies, James Lockett, James Dossen, and a host of other relatives and friends. 

Due to the restrictions imposed as a result of COVID-19, Dr. Roberts will be laid to rest in Maryland (USA) at a private ceremony. A memorial service will subsequently be held at a later date.

Viewing: June 4, 2020, 4 pm – 6 pm (Please follow the directions of the funeral attendants and observe strict physical distancing.)
