In Loving Memory of Mai Comfort Gibson Pearson

It is with deep sadness that the Pearson, Gibson, & Wilson families announce the peaceful passing-away of our beloved Mother, Grandmother, Great-grandmother, Aunt, Cousin and Friend. This sad event occurred early Thursday morning on September 3, 2020 in Elmont, New York. She was loved and cared for by her children.
Mrs. Mai Comfort Gibson Pearson, also affectionately known by her family and friends as “Mai Pearson & Madame Kofi” was born in Harper City, Maryland County, located in Liberia, West Africa. She was the youngest child of nine children born to the late Methuselah H. Gibson and the late Martha V. Wilson. She was preceded in death by her parents; her brothers: General Robert Henri Gibson, General Leroy Gibson, Mr. Johnny Gibson and Mr. Henry Gibson; her sisters: Ms. Charlotte Gibson, Ms. Dolly Gibson, Mrs. Martha Gibson Merchant and Mrs. Fannie Gibson George. Her children: John W. Pearson, Jenkins H. S. Pearson, Fannie Mai Pearson, Lulu Pearson & three others that died as infants.
She married the late Major Samuel Bennett Pearson Sr. of the Arm Forces of Liberia, West Africa. She was a devoted wife and mother. She will be remembered as a selfless, altruistic mother who always had a smile, even when times were tough. She had a quiet strength, avoided complaining and always looked to a better future. She always sacrificed her needs for the good of her family. She enjoyed laughter and good times with her friends and always willingly gave & helped her neighbors.
Mai developed a relationship with Christ at an early age, prayed a lot & read her Bible. Two of her favorite scriptures was Psalms 23 and 91. She was a member of St. Thomas Episcopal Church in Liberia, West Africa. Mai attended school in Maryland county, Liberia. She was a professional Seamstress and was an Entrepreneur. Her home was opened to the neighbors and fed many that were hungry.
She relocated to the United States in the early 1980s but traveled back and forth to Liberia, West Africa helping families & friends.
She leaves to cherish precious memories her children: Samuel Bennett Pearson Jr. (Maude); Benetta E. Pearson; Myrtle M. Pearson; Mrs. Emma Mai Gbabo (Andrew); Fortune R. Pearson (Miattah); Diamond A. Pearson (Aderonke); and a host of grandchildren: Sarah, Nathaniel, Arthur II., Maeyuwye, Tineezee, Dalvin, Cameren, Jayla, Jasmine, Isaiah, Maliah, Andy, Naomi, Samuel III, Veronique, Brandeleen, Sonnie, Samuel IV, Christine, Cathalyn, Joanne, John Jr., Pamela, Charles, Charlotte-Mai, Eleanor, Corrina, Myrtle, Benetta and a host of great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
Mother-dear, you will be deeply missed. May your soul rest in peace.
