Dr. Yvonne Kandakai-Olukemi
It is with profound sorrow that the Olukemi, Kandakai, and Lewis families announce the sudden death of Dr. Yvonne Kandakai-Olukemi - aka-Lady. This mournful event occurred on Monday, November 6, 2017 in Plateau State, Nigeria.
She leaves to mourn her loss, her two sons, Muyiwa and Segun Olukemi, (Cousins) Ms. Johnetta Minor, Victoria Lewis, F. Ben Lewis (Rose), Charles Lewis, Elaine Lewis Bright (Richard), Marion Lewis Morris, James H. Lewis Jr., Winifred Lewis, Earner Lewis, E. Tyson Lewis, Vashti Lewis Kekula (Gyah), Eric C. Lewis and a host of loving family and friends.
Yvonne graduated from CWA in 1969. In 1975, she graduated from University of Oregon with her B.S. in Microbiology. She completed her Master and Doctoral from The University of Wales in London in 1981.
She began her career as a lecturer at the University of Port Harcourt, Rivers State Nigeria from 1982-1986. In 1986, Yvonne relocated to Liberia and worked as an assistant professor at the Department of Medical Microbiology at the A.M. Dogliotti College of Medicine - University of Liberia from 1986-1990. During the Liberian Civil War, she relocated to Nigeria and worked as a lecturer at the University of Jos Plateau State, Department of Medical Microbiology, Faculty of Medical Science until her death.
Dr. Yvonne Kandakai-Olukemi was predeceased by her husband, Dr. Moses Ademola Olukemi, (Father) James Kandakai, (Mother) Elizabeth Lewis, (Uncles) James H. Lewis Sr., and Charles Lewis, (Aunt) Ella Taylor, (Cousins) James H. Lewis, (JH) and Lucy Dolly Lewis Sherman. She will be missed by her beloved family and friends. May Light Perpetual Shine Upon Her.
