Mr. Anthony Nyenati

It is with the deepest and profound sadness the family of Mr. Anthony Nyenati announces his death as wished by the Almighty God on May 23, 2014 in -------, Minnesota. Mr. Nyenati was born in Accra, Ghana, and graduated from Our Lady of Fatima High School in Cape Palmas, Maryland County. After he graduated from Fatima, Nyenati went to Yekepa, Nimba County, where he attended LAMCO's Vocational Training Center (VTC) and studied electrical engineering. After his graduation from VTC, he moved to Buchanan, Grand Bassa County, and took up employment there with LAMCO. While working for LAMCO in the early 1970s, he played for Grand Bassa County in the County Meet. It was while playing for Bassa that Samuel Burnette scouted him and Alexander Rockson and convinced them to relocate to Monrovia to play for IE and became a regular feature on the team. Although he was about 5'8, his ability to out jump his markers was remarkable. This and his speed made him a dangerous goals scorer.

With his professional qualification as an electrician, he was employed at LEC. As an employee, he proved to be efficient and effective. As a result, he was promoted to field supervisor, the position he held until the outbreak of the Liberian civil war that forced him to leave Liberia and settle in the United States. First, he settled in Staten Island, New York, and then in Minnesota where his health deteriorated and was ill for many years until Friday's morning, May 23, 2014, when he finally went into that night.

Mr. Nyenati is survived by Mrs. Jestina Nimene Nyenati, his wife for many years, his children Anthony Y. Nyenati, Jr., Emma M. Nyenati, Marcia T. Nyenati, Antoinette C. Nyenati, Vivian G. Nyenati, Jestina F. Nyenati, and Antonio T. Nyenati. Also surviving him are his grandchildren: Anthony D. Nyenati, III, Blake J. Nyenati, Alexandra T. Nyenati, Iolanda T. Costa, Laura Costa, and Varney O. Williams, all of whom will miss him dearly. Also, missing him will be his former football teammates and fans, from Picnic Cess, Cape Palmas, Buchanan and Monrovia, by whom he was affectionately and variously called Arbarty Wleh, Pokou, and Body Worker.
