Mrs. Sarah Alafia Gooding-Moore

The Gooding, Moore, Barnaby, Pratt, Cole, King, Thomas, Jones, and Bright Families announce with profound sadness, the home-going of Mrs. Sarah Alafia Gooding Moore. This sad event occurred on Friday July 29, 2016 in Derwood, Maryland. Alafia was born on October 5, 1929 in Freetown, Sierra Leone, unto the union of the late Samuel Ayodele Gooding Sr., and Selina Ojumeri Thomas.

She is survived by her children Theresa Eno Barnaby, Eunice Barnaby Johnson, Oretha Barnaby Gonyon (Stephen), Derelyn Barnaby Johnson (Hene), Patrick Barnaby, Ian Taylor (Nancy), Winston Ayo Moore (Nelly), Precious Moore Johnson (Teddy), Charles Ophido Moore (MiMi), and Rochelle Moore Miller-Bey (Toussaint). She is also survived by 10 brothers and Sisters; George H. Gooding (Sadia), Samuel A. Gooding, Jr. (Waverly), Julius Gooding (Willa ), Gwendolyn Gooding Wilson, Victoria Gooding Harris (Charles), Veronica Gooding Ngwayah (Archie), Onike Gooding Freeman,  Miatta Gooding, Subee Gooding, and Kosonikeh Cole. Alafia also leaves to mourn several grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins, and a host of relatives and friends in the United States, Liberia, and Sierra Leone.

As we grieve the loss of our dear Alafia, we find consolation that she is resting in the arms of the Lord. The void left by her passing will never be filled, but the memories that we cultivated over the years will live with us forever. May her soul rest in eternal peace.

 We are confident, I say, and willing rather to be absent from the body, and to be present with the Lord (2 Corinthians 5:8).
