Jerome Irvin Mends-Cole
September 27, 1936 – December 18, 2020
The Mends-Cole, Capehart, Fagan, Gitei family regret to announce the death of our beloved husband, father, brother, grandfather, great grandfather, Jerome Irvin Mends-Cole (The eldest son and patriarch of the Mends-Cole Family). This sad event occurred on Friday December 18, 2020 in Lynn, Massachusetts.
Jerome attended College of West Africa, Booker Washington Institute and later Central State University and Cleveland State University where he earned a degree in Mechanical Engineering. Upon his return to Liberia, Jerome worked in several capacities in both the public and private sectors. Some of his positions include Director General GSA and the Assistant Minister Public Works.
He leaves to mourn his loss and cherish his memory his wife, Grace W. Gitei Mends-Cole, his children, Oneka Mends-Cole Sangster, Jerome J. Mends-Cole (Dee), Aquila T. Mend-Cole, Jumah J. Mends-Cole (Therese), Moustafa Mends-Cole (Chelsea), Maude A. Mends-Cole, Armel Mends-Cole (Sarah), his siblings – Alexine M. Howard, Rose C. Sherman, J. Jenkins Mends-Cole Jr (Audrey), Urias R. Mends-Cole (Johnette), Sophie E. Williams (Donald), Mai Mends-Cole, Mariah Mends-Cole and several grand-children, nephews, nieces, cousins and host of other relatives and friends.
He was predeceased by his father, Rev. Dr. Joseph J. Mends-Cole Sr, his mother, Mariah Capehart Mends-Cole, his stepmother, Florence C. Mends-Cole, his son, Cornel A. Mends-Cole and his former wife, Dr. Corrine Mends-Cole.
Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, a private service will be held by the family. A memorial service will be scheduled, once it is safe to congregate.
