Joseph Mentee Matadi

January 14, 1958 - October 28, 2018

The Matadi family announces, with deep sadness, the loss of a loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, uncle, cousin, and friend.

On Sunday, October 28th, 2018, after a 2-year battle with chronic illness, Joseph Mentee Matadi received his healing and went home to be with the Lord.

Joe, with his gregarious personality, was very sociable, outgoing, and made friends everywhere he went. He was an ultimate family man. He loved seeing his family come together in unity, and he did whatever he could to make sure they were taken care of. He was a very helpful man, often volunteering his time, energy, wisdom and resources to pour into the communities around him, in whatever capacity they needed it.
Joseph also loved life, and he carried a lively demeanor with him at all times. He kept this same dynamic attitude — often smiling, laughing, joking, singing - in the midst of every situation and circumstance he was faced with, up until his untimely passing.

Joe was preceded in death by his father, Bondo Matadi, his mother Nyenpu Matadi, three of his brothers, John, William, and Samume, and four of his sisters, Betty, Yokelleh, Hawa, and Kegbeh.

He leaves to mourn his loss, his wife, Comfort Gbassagee Matadi, his children, Marie Matadi, Tolo Gbassage (Denise), Angelique Matadi, Joetta Matee Matadi-Smith (Kevin), and Leanne Nyenpu Matadi, two of his brothers, Jacob and Roland, five of his sisters, Big Ma, Cecilia, Yamah, Fatu, and Rebecca, nine grandchildren, one great-grandson, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, loved ones, colleagues, and friends.

He will be greatly missed by all who knew him.
