WINIFRED OLIVIA RAILEY MASSAQUOI

It is with profound regret, the Broderick, Brown, Browne, Crayton, Davies, Duncan, Grigsby, Railey, Mason, Massaquoi, Mitchell, Monger, Pellham, Randall, Sawyer, Sneh and Summerville families announce that the earthly life of their beloved Mother, Grandmother, Aunt, and Cousin Winifred Olivia Railey Massaquoi ended on Thursday, June 4, 2020. Also known as Dr. Massaquoi, Mamata, Mama, Winnie, and Mrs. Massaquoi, her soul has transitioned to be with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ in Heaven after a protracted illness. At the time, she was resting at her home in Olney, Maryland, United States of America. She was surrounded by her children Natalie and Nathaniel.

She was born Winifred Olivia Railey in Greenville, Sinoe County, on April 25, 1929 unto the union of Elery Benjamin Railey and Julia Frances Crayton. She is predeceased by her parents; her husband, the late Honorable Nathaniel V. Massaquoi of Grand Cape Mount County; her three brothers Grove, Lloyd and Steven. She is survived by her three children Natalie Veronica Massaquoi, Julia Massaquoi Oladipupo and Nathaniel V. Massaquoi II; four grandchildren Georgina, Julianna, Mutiat and Rilwan. Additionally, she leaves to mourn her loss a host of family members and friends in Liberia, the United States and throughout the world. Her story is captured in her memoir, "Joy-Joy In My Heart, The Girl from Greenville - Sinoe, Liberia", published in 2016 under the name Winifred O. Massaquoi.

Our dear loved one and Matriarch was very meticulous. She left precise instructions as to how she wants her remains and burial handled; particularly during the current global health pandemic. The family will strictly adhere to her expressed wishes and ask that you join us in respecting those wishes as we honor her memory and legacy. Homegoing services in her honor will be held - virtually - on Facebook Live as well as the YouTube Channel. All are invited to watch the homegoing service live.

After public health authorities have declared the COVID-19 pandemic over, the family will decide upon and announce plans to honor the life and legacy of WINIFRED OLIVIA RAILEY MASSAQUOI.
