James Jefferson Johnson, II

The Johnson, Doe, Wolo, and Toe families announce with profound sorrow and saddened hearts the passing of Mr. James Jefferson Johnson, II, their dearly beloved son, husband, father, brother, uncle, nephew, cousin, friend and associate. This sad event occurred on Sunday, February 16, 2020, at the UCSF Hospital in San Francisco, California, United States of America following a brief period of illness.

James Jefferson Johnson, I1 (JJ, as he was affectionately known) , leaves to mourn his wife, Sara Doe; his children, James Jefferson Johnson III, Jamese Johnson, daughter/niece Dr. Boyennoh T. Gaye-Bernard (James), and granddaughter/niece Ariah Bernard; his mother, Regina Wehtee Toe Gaye; his siblings, Charles Boye Johnson, Yvonne Johnson, Ottilie Johnson, Douglas Johnson, Otis Johnson (N'sera Keita), Joyce Johnson Dolo (Stephen Boone), Stanley A. Gaye (Cynita), Emmanuel Clarke Gaye, and Maria N. Gaye; and a host of uncles, aunties, nieces, nephews, cousins, and other relatives in the United States , Liberia, and other parts of the world. JJ was predeceased by his father, James Jefferson Johnson, I; father-in-law Michael Doe; maternal grandmother Eliza Bonyenoh Wolo; and paternal grandfather J. Blamo Toe, among other faithful departed.

James Jefferson Johnson, I1 received his High School diploma in 1977 from the College of West Africa (CWA) in Monrovia, Liberia. He earned both an Associate of Applied Science degree in Structural Engineering and a Bachelor of Science degree in Civil Engineering from Cogswell Polytechnic College, Sunnyvale, California. Thereafter, he obtained a Master of Business Administration (MBA) degree, Golden Gate University, San Francisco, California; and completed an Executive Management Program Certificate in Contracts Law / Claims Avoidance at the Hass School of Management, University of California at Berkeley, California. He was a member of the Construction Management Association of America, American Society of Civil Engineers, and the Northern California Council of Black Professional Engineers, among other industry affiliations.

In the United States, James Jefferson Johnson, I1 started his engineering career with F.E Jordan Associates and later as Construction Manager with Turner Construction Company in California. Among his professional assignments, he served as Senior Construction Manager of the Laguna Honda Hospital Replacement Program; Senior Project Manager of the Livonia Dejean Middle School Project /West Contra Costa Unified School District, Richmond, CA; Deputy Project Manager, Port of Oakland Vision 2000 Program-Phase 1B Project; and Senior Project Manager of the San Francisco Unified School District, among other relevant project management experience.

In Liberia, James Jefferson Johnson, I1 was Senior Managing Partner of Bluestar Contractors , and managed construction and renovation projects, such as the renovation of the Monrovia City Corporation building; renovation of the Capitol Building; and security facility upgrade at the National Port Authority. In his last construction and engineering venture, he served as Senior Managing Partner of CJ Construction, Inc., which provided quality professional services ranging from Architectural and Engineering Designs, General Construction, and General Contracting to Construction Management and Inspection Services. His professional accomplishments included, but were not limited to, the construction of the new 100 bed-room ELWA Hospital in Paynesville, Liberia; the Liberia Maritime Authority Administration Building (design consultant), Liberia Petroleum Refining Corporation (LPRC) Product Storage Facility Rehabilitation; APM Terminals design and civil works at the Freeport of Monrovia, National Port Authority; the construction of the new Central Bank Administrative Office Complex; and the new United States Embassy Compound (general construction).

James Jefferson Johnson, I1 was a Christian and member of the S. Trowen United Methodist Church in Sinkor, Monrovia, Liberia. May his soul rest in perfect peace and light perpetual shine upon him!
