Mrs.
Mary Louise Jones Howe
The
Howe, Jones , Porte, Rundell and Diggs families
announces with profound sorrow the death in
her 76th year of their mother, grandmother,
aunt, and cousin, Mrs. Mary Louise Jones Howe
on October 10th, 2011 in Monrovia after a period
of illness.
Ma Mai, Cousin Mary, Tee, Mama, as she was called
by many during her lifetime, was born in Harford,
Grand Bassa County Liberia on January 12, 1935
unto the union of Mr. William Francis Jones
and Mary Victoria Porte Jones who predeceased
her.
At
an early age, her mother moved to the Central
Province, now Gbarnga, as a public school teacher.
Young Mary, moved along with her mother and
Brothers Robert, William and Francis (William
and Francis predeceased her).
While growing up in Gbarnga, she met George
W. Howe, the assigned Tax Collector for the
province and married him in 1956 in the St.
Peter's Episcopal Church, Gbarnga. This union
was blessed with six biological children, five
step children and two foster children.
Our
mother was a mother to every child who came
her way; a comfort to strangers and hope to
the wayfarer. She never distinguished between
her own children and her wards. She was a devout
Episcopalian.
Mama is survived by her children: Amanda Randall,
USA; Adi Howe Yarsiah (Dickson); Elizabeth Bessie
Howe; Lucretia Howe Nelson (Tumu) UK; George
W. Howe Jr. (Youku); Emmanuel D. Howe (Lillian);
David Cooper, USA; Georgia Howe; Samuel Sophy
Howe; Sylvester John Jacob Howe; 2 brothers,
Robert L. Jones Sr. and J. Amos Jones ; 27 grandchildren;
14 great grandchildren; several nieces and nephews,
especially Mardea Jones, who stood by her to
the last day; several cousins and in laws.
Funeral
Friday, October 28, 2011 - Removal of body
from Samuel Stryker Funeral Home at
9:00 AM to Gbarnga, Bong County for one night
wake keeping. All
tributes will be at the wake except the family.
Saturday October 29, 2011 - Funeral service
at the St. Peter's Episcopal Church,
Gbarnga at 10:00 AM. Burial at Gbarnga Cemetery.
