Psalm 91:1-2
He who dwells in the secret place of the Most High
Shall abide under the shadow of the Almighty.
I will say of the Lord, “He is my refuge and my fortress,
My God, in Him I trust.”
It is with profound grief, sadness and regret that we the Holmes, Cooper, Sannoh, Johnson, Karnley, McGill, Jones, Tyler, Foley, Anderson, Goll, Roberts and other extended families announce the home going of our beloved Husband, Father, Grandfather, Uncle, Brother, Nephew, Cousin and Friend Honorable Alexander Varney Holmes Jr. He was predeceased by his parents, Hon. Alexander Varney Holmes, Sr. and Jartue Johnson Holmes.
This heart breaking event occurred on Wednesday August 19, 2020 at Cleveland Pines Nursing Home in Shelby, North Carolina.
Honorable Alexander Varney Holmes diligently and distinctly served his county and country with dedication and integrity. His leadership and professional career span across government, autonomy agency and the mining industry. He served as Industrial Relations Officer for LAMCO, in Yekepa, Nimba county. Deputy Managing Director for Water and Sewer Corporation, Superintendent for Bomi County, Bomi county NDPL Chairman. Other positions of service included: Deputy Minister for Internal Affairs and national Co-chairman of NDPL.
Hon. Holmes also served his country as Adjutant General AFL (Armed Forces of Liberia), Tactical Communications specialist and instructor at camp Todee Military Academy in Margibi county. His brilliance, toughness, smartness and distinguish service in the Armed Forces of Liberia earned him military scholarships for advanced training at Fort Benning Army Base Georgia, USA.
Honorable Alexander Varney Holmes was a devoted born again faithful Christian who wore a lot of different hats in his church; Elder, President for the Men’s department, Worship Service Leader, General secretary, Member of the trustee board, Sunday school teacher and served on many committees.
Honorable Alexander Varney Holmes is survived by his wife, Nancy B. Cooper Holmes, children, and a host of other relatives including: Moses Holmes, Gbono Holmes, Christian Holmes, George Momolu Holmes, Varney Jeh Holmes, Jumah Janet Holmes, Alexander Varney Holmes III, Sensee Holmes, Yetteh Botoe Holmes, Thomas Holmes, Massa Holmes, grandchildren, brothers, sisters and lots of friends in Europe, the USA, the Middle East, and Africa.
Hon. Holmes was the family Historian, a very loving and caring grandfather who always told jokes and was full of parables. He loved to speak his dialect, GOLA, and sometimes mimic people’s expressions to make others laugh. Varney was always joyous and respectful. May his soul rest in perpetual peace.
