announce the
passing, in her 83rd year, of their mother,
sister, aunty and
grandmother, Ms. Johnetta Roseline Bass-Hoggard.
Mama, Grandma, Aunt
John, as she was affectionately called, died
in the early hours of
Nov. 5, 2011, at the John F. Kennedy Hospital
in Edison, New Jersey.
Johnetta
was born in Arthington, Montserrado County,
Liberia unto John
Thomas Bass and Janet Bracewell-Askie. She was
married to Albert
Hoggard, who predeceased her. For several years
Johnetta worked at the
JFK Hospital in Monrovia as a nurse, before
joining her daughter, the
Rev. Venus Washington-Davis, in New Jersey in
1997.
Johnetta
is survived by her only daughter, Venus; one
sister, Rachel
Askie-Cooper, of Boston, Massachusetts; two
brothers, Deacon Taphis
Bass of Arthington, Liberia; and George Washington
Askie, of Deptford,
New Jersey. She is also survived by three grandchildren:
Donald
Cooper, Momolu Andrew Cooper and Adolphus Cooper;
two great
grandchildren: Sophia Cooper and Ruby Cooper;
several nieces, nephews,
cousins and other relatives and friends.
