Richelieu Bartholomew Harris, Sr
It is with the deepest sorry that the Harris’ family announce the passing of Richelieu Bartholomew Harris Sr which occurred on Monday, 21 December 2020 at the Paradise Valley Hospital in San Diego, California after a brief illness.
‘Papa’, ‘Buddy’, ‘The Papay’, ‘Cross 7’ Bobber Richelieu’, Richelieu’s passing has been a shock to his family, friends and loved ones; as, though he had just celebrated his 74th birthday and had lived passed the coveted 3 scores and 10 noted in the Bible, he was still physically strong, mentally acute, and was actively involved in his church and in raising his grandchildren.
He was born on 20 November 1946 in Greenville, Sinoe County, Liberia. He held a number of qualifications in journalism and mass communications, a Masters of Philosophy in Psychology, an MA in Forensic Psychology and a BSc. in Criminal Justice. At the time of his passing, he was a Doctoral/Ph. D Scholar in Forensic Psychology at Walden University, Minnesota U.S.A.
Richelieu worked at the Liberia National Police with the rank of Lieutenant in the 1970s and up to the 1980s; and was Chief Information Officer, producer/presenter of the Police Report Program (Police Reporter ELBC and ELWA Radio).
A veteran journalist, He worked at the Daily Listener Newspaper, Liberian Star Newspaper and Liberian Age Newspaper. He was the Proprietor and Managing Editor of the Liberian Sportsman Newspaper and freelanced at the San Diego Union Tribune Newspaper in California, United States. Richelieu was Director of Information and Public Relations at the Ministry of Labour Youth and Sports in Liberia; and Director of Information and Public Affairs at the Ministry of Youth & Sports. He served as Board Member and Editor of the United States based Growing Liberia’s Children (GLC) Newsletter.
He worked at the Liberian National Red Cross Society (LNRCS), and was the Information Dissemination Officer and worked in cooperation with the International Federation of Red Cross & Red Crescent Society (IFRC&RCS), and the International Committee of Red Cross (ICRC). He was a man of great faith, leading and living by example; and was an elder in the Presbyterian Church of Liberia.
Richelieu leaves to mourn his loss: his wife of nearly 50 years, Malia E Harris, 5 children: Reuben, Elizabeth (Ma Zoe), Eliza, Richelieu, Jr and Malia; 17 grandchildren; 4 siblings: Edwin, Eliza, Nora and Ezekiel, the Smith, Browne, Green, Hoff, Tucker, Deensie and Bing families in parts of the US, Liberia and Manchester, England. A host of friends from his home country Liberia, the St Paul’s Presbyterian Church, Gardnersville, the Presbytery of Liberia, the family of Chula Vista Presbyterian Church, San Diego, CA, the San Diego Liberian Community and other parts of the US. Richelieu was also pre-deceased by his eldest son, Lorenzo A Harris, Sr.
