SAMUEL E. HARE SR.

The Hare, Cummings, Woart, Bedell and Seton Families announce, with profound regret the sudden death of Samuel Erasmas Kla Hare Sr. This sad event occurred on August 14, 2020 at 8:56 pm at Doctors Community Hospital in Lanham, Maryland, USA. He was 87 years old. Pa, Pa Hare, Pops, Old Pops, MaPa, Grandpa, Uncle Sammy, Cousin Sammy, Sammy Hare etc. as he was called by many, was born on Friday, March 3, 1933 (3-3-33), in Harper, Maryland County, Liberia unto the union of William W. Hare and Annie Cummings Hare both of whom predeceased him.

He attended Cape Palmas High School in Harper, Maryland and St. Patrick’s High School in Monrovia Liberia, where he graduated in 1952. He then attended the University of Liberia, for a semester before receiving a Liberian Government scholarship to pursue a degree in Agriculture in the United States. He graduated from Lincoln University in Jefferson City, Missouri with a BSc. degree in General Agriculture and returned to Liberia to fulfill his scholarship contract obligations. He was employed with the Ministry of Agriculture for 5 years as Deputy Extension Director of the Southeast Region of Liberia. Subsequently, he was hired as one of the first few Liberian Senior Staff at the Firestone Plantations Company, where he worked for 17 years and rose to the position of Estates Group Manager. He left Firestone to support a Liberian Government/World Bank Partnership Project, the Liberian Rubber Development Unit (LRDU) as Deputy Chief Operating Officer. He served LRDU for several years until his appointment as General Manager of Sinoe Rubber Company (SRC), by the Minister of Agriculture. After the Liberian Civil War, he left Sinoe Rubber Company, retired, and moved to the United States where he resided in Baltimore and Bowie, Maryland until his demise.

Samuel E. Hare Sr. leaves to mourn his loss many children, William (Jacqueline), Sam Jr. (Debbie), Oliver (Pauline), Evangeline (Hector), Elizabeth (Edwin), Big Felicia (Nyema), Evelyn, Cora (Henry), Arway (George), Vera, Wante (Emmanuel), Zipporal, Radcliff, Small Felicia, and James. Winston, Warren, and Annie predeceased him. He also left many grandchildren, great-grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends in the US and Liberia.

Given the COVID pandemic, the funeral service will be very private for close family and invited friends only. It will be live streamed for online viewing at YouTube: Liberian Radio & Television Network

Interment will follow at his Johnsonville Farm outside of Monrovia.

The Samuel E. Hare Sr. Educational Foundation will be established to support scholarships to deserving students at Cape Palmas High School and St. Patrick’s High School in Liberia.
