James Douglas Hall, Sr.

James Douglas Hall, Sr. passed away on Friday, April 9, 2010 at California Pacific Medical Center after a brief illness. He was the devoted husband to Albertha Louise Tonia Hall who preceded him in death on Valentine Day, February 14, 2009. He was preceded in death by his parents: Alexander Corinthian Hall, Sr. and Victoria Dunn Hall and a brother, Alexander Corinthian Hall Jr.

He leaves behind four children: Janice Victoria Hall Kennedy (Emmett), Alexander Douglas Hall, James Douglas Hall, Jr. (Kristen), and Asatu Musunama Hall-Allah (Takim Saffat);

He was a cherished grandfather of Princess Alnede Hall, Ashley-Nicole Asatu Hall-Kennedy, (Matthew Barnes) Audrey LaVette Kennedy, Lindsay-Renee Ethel Kennedy, Emmett Euin Kennedy II, Lawrence Jason Kennedy, Kaelin Yumi Hall, Justin MaKai Hall, and AhmadCiafia Kabakai Saffat Allah; devoted great grandfather of Mathew Vernell Barnes II and Kennedy-Sanai Asatu Nicole Barnes;

He leaves to mourn his siblings, Hillary Seabron Hall of Brazil; Wellington Hans Hall Sr. of Providence Rhode Island; Emma Makrah Hall-Boyce of Maryland; and Eric Alphonso Hall of Monrovia Liberia.

Mr. Hall received his primary and high school education respectively from Kakata Grammar School (KGS) and graduated from The Booker Washington Agricultural and Industrial Institute (BWI) in 1956.

He matriculated to Samuel Grimes Academy of Midwifery, (Miss Moore Mission) where he started his medical training. He later he attended the Tubman National Institute Medical Arts, School of Nursing (TNIMA), where he graduated with a degree in Nursing on November 18,1959. James interned at Duside Hospital where he was in charge of circumcising the baby boys and assisting with the delivery of babies.

He was later transferred to a remote town called Weasua where he was the sole practitioner in a government hospital called Public Clinic. He was known as Dr. Hall while he worked at this Clinic for four years.

James Hall migrated to the United States 1964 where he began working at UCSF - Mount Zion Hospital in San Francisco as a Registered Nurse. He later earned his Bachelor of Arts from San Francisco State College, followed by his Masters of Science in Nursing. Mr. Hall worked at UCSF - Mount Zion Campus for 40 years and retired in July 2004.

Family and friends are invited to attend the Quiet Hour Friday, April 23, from 4:00-7:00 p.m.; the wake will continue from 7:00-10:00 p.m. at Temple United Methodist Church , 1111 Junipero Serra Blvd. (at Beverly St.), San Francisco, CA.

The Funeral Service - Saturday, April 24th at 10:00 a.m. at Temple United Methodist Church , 1111 Junipero Serra Blvd. (at Beverly St.), San Francisco, CA.

Interment - Cypress Lawn Cemetery, Colma, Ca.

Repass – At Lutheran Church of Our Savior 1011 Garfield St. San Francisco, (Approx. a one block walk from Temple United Methodist Church) See below for directions.
