“I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith. Now there is in store for me the crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous Judge, will award to me on that day—and not only to me, but also to all who have longed for his appearing.” 2 Timothy 4:7-8

The Goaneh, Nylander, Woods, Johnson, Raynes, Howard, Harris, Vanderpuye, King, Caesar, Zawolo, Stewart and Bruce families, regret to announce the passing of our dearest Mother, sister, auntie, cousin, grandmother, Cecilia Onike Nylander Goaneh in her 85th year of life. She had just celebrated her 85th birthday on July 15th, 2020.

Mammie, Keh-yeh, Sister, Tete, Auntie, CNG, Cece, Mrs. Goaneh, Mrs. G, Cousin Cecilia, Grandma as she was affectionately called, mounted her wings and danced through the heavenly gates to meet her Lord during the early hours on Sunday, July 26, 2020. Her peaceful transition occurred that morning at the home of Alvin and Eunice Harris Sr. by her side in Bowie, Maryland USA. Cecilia shared her time and resided with all of her children and mostly resided in the Metro DC area for most of her years spent in these United States of America.

Mammie as she was affectionately called, became Mammie not just to her children but to many others she crossed paths with. She lived up to the image of being their Mammie too.

Mammie was the matriarch of our family and has left a tender, unswerving and tranquil memory with her children Ophelia Ratcliffe, Gloria Peal (E. George) King, Priscilla (J. Galakpai) Howard, Eunice (Alvin Mocco) Harris Sr., Julius Konah Goaneh, Juliette Euin (Augustus) Vanderpuye, Gregory Goaneh, Christine Simmons Johnson, Nancy (Ezekiel) Caesar, her sisters; Annie, Aboiseh, Salome, Ibella, Modu, her brothers; Obadiah (Laura), James aka Baldwin, John, Amos (Tanneh), her doting grandsons and granddaughters (with fond memories and stories about her), nieces, nephews, cousins John (Catherine) Woods, Armahrue (Maltilda) Woods, Evangeline (Lady Van) Lahai, Wokie (Quentin) Stewart, James Woods, Ophelia Woods and a host of other relatives in the USA and Liberia.

Preceding her in death, was her oldest child Sylvester Joko Goaneh, grandmother: Cecilia Vincent, her mother (Sarah Woods Johnson), father (Solomon Nylander) brothers: Tyson Woods, Nathaniel Peal, Patrick Johnson, Magnus Nylander, Albert Nylander, Sister: Nancy Morgan and cousins (the Woods brothers); Emile, Osmond, Waldron, Dempsey (always reminiscing about her time growing up with them).

Mammie we miss you dearly, thanks for the steadfast and unwavering love you imparted to your entire family, and one thing is sure, we always knew you have been our guiding angel here on earth and you won’t ever overlook that role in heaven. Rest in eternity our dear Mother.
May God’s peace be with your soul.

Due to the restrictions imposed as a result of COVID-19, Mrs. Cecilia Goaneh will be laid to rest in Maryland (USA) at a private ceremony. The family appreciates your thoughts, well-wishes and prayers.
