 Samuel D. Glover Sr. (Alaba)Sunrise April 7, 1934 - Sunset: March 28, 2017
The Glover family announces with sadness, in his 83rd year, the home going of Mr. Samuel D. Glover, Sr. ‘Alaba’. This sad event occurred at the JFK Memorial Hospital in Monrovia after a brief illness. He was a father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, uncle, and cousin to many. He leaves to mourn, his children: Betty Glover, Hannah Glover, Sam Glover Jr.(Paulette), Chester Glover, Mireille ‘Cute’ Glover-Doe (Gerald), Alphonso Richardson, Beverly Omejia (Barnabas) and Mulbah Nupolu. He is also survived by his siblings Cornelius Abayomi Glover, Lucinda Dowoo Glover-Walker, Arthur Glover (Dedeh), and Esther Dennis. Also mourning his loss is a host of grand and great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, in-laws, and friends in the United States, Liberia, Sierra Leone, Europe, and the Caribbean.
He was predeceased by his parents, Mr. Samuel J. Glover and Mrs. Hannah Glover, his sisters Angeline Wata Allison and Letitia Ayo Gibson.
Mr. Glover was born in Kakata, in what was then Margibi Territory. He graduated from St. Patrick’s High school in 1954 and matriculated to Delft Institute of Technology now called Delft University in the Netherlands. There he met and married his wife of 51 years, Irma C. Glover. She predeceased him in 2012. Mr. Glover began his professional career as a photogrammetric engineer at the then Liberian Cartographic Survey after returning home. He is credited with being one of the early engineers that created the geodetic points for Liberia, on which many of the Country’s maps are based.His entire professional career was spent at the Ministry of Lands, Mines, and Energy until he retired in 1985 as Assistant Minister for Lands and Survey in 1985 to pursue his passion as a private business person and farmer.
The body of Mr. Samuel D. Glover, Sr. will be removed from the Stryker Funeral Parlor at 8:00 a.m. on Saturday, April 15, 2017, and taken to Kakata, Margibi County for funeral services at St. Augustine Episcopal Church, commencing at 10:00 a.m. Internment follows at the Kakata Cemetery where he will be laid to rest next to his parents.
