 Madam Lucy Gbassey Giddings
July 26, 1925 – July 23, 2020
The Giddings Family of Sanoyea, Bong County, Liberia regrets to announce the death of Madam Lucy Gbassey Giddings which occurred at 12:45 pm on July 23,2020 at the home of her daughter Sarah Giddings Varpilah in Phoenix, Arizona, United States. She was surrounded by loved ones. Madam Giddings was born on July 26, 1925 in Nenta Village, Sanoyea District unto the union of Mr. Turcolon Kpulu and Madame Makorlor Gbukpuwa. She married the late Rev. Peter Lepolue Giddings, Sr. and their union was blessed with nine children, Mary, Nenekole, Sarah Kornah, Sarah’s twin Zinnah (deceased), Beatrice (deceased), Nyinyah, Nenpulor (deceased), Oretha and Orlando. Madam Giddings was a loving mother to so many children she considered her own, siblings, nieces, nephews, grandchildren, and great grandchildren. She was a home maker, avid cook, storyteller, wisdom talker, and enjoyed farming, fishing, and hunting. Madam Giddings worked for many years with Lutheran missionaries in Liberia including Ms. Jensen, cooking for the Sanoyea Lutheran mission orphanage and Totota Lutheran mission school in the 1950’s and 1960’s. Her family and loved ones have so many loving memories of her. She traveled to the United States in 1999 and lived with her daughter, Sarah Giddings Varpilah until she was called home. Madam Giddings also enjoyed going to church and was member of the Trinity Lutheran Church and Wesleyan Bible Church in Phoenix, Arizona. Her husband, parents, siblings, four daughters, Nenekole, Zinnah, Nenpulor and Beatrice preceded her in death. She leaves to mourn her children, Mary Giddings Wornor, Sarah Giddings Varpilah, Nyinyah Giddings, Oretha Giddings, Orlando Giddings, her sister Priscilla Payne, many grandchildren, great grandchildren, and a host of relatives and friends in Liberia and the United States. She will be laid to rest on August 15, 2020 in Phoenix, Arizona, United States. Rest in Peace, our beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister and aunt, until we meet again. You will be dearly missed. We love you, but God loves you best. Go rest with the Angels!
A Viewing will be held on Friday, August 14, 2020 4:00 pm (7:00 pm ET, 6:00 pm CT), Trinity Lutheran Church, 9424 N 7th Avenue, Phoenix, AZ, 85021
The Funeral Service will be held on Saturday, August 15, 2020 9:30 am (12:30 pm ET, 11:30 am CT), Heritage Sunwest Cemetery, 12525 NW Grand Ave, El Mirage, AZ, 85335
Due to COVID -19 restrictions, all attendees must wear a mask in the church and observe the necessary protocol during the services.
