Mrs. Evangeline Baromietta Morris Dennis

The Dennis Family announce, with profound regrets, the death of Mrs. Evangeline Baromietta Morris Dennis, the wife of the late Francis Alphonso Dennis, Sr., Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Liberia to the Court of St. James (United Kingdom); the United States of America with a concurrent assignment to Canada; the former Union of Soviet Socialist Republics, with concurrent assignments to Poland, Norway, Sweden, and Denmark; and Cote d’Ivoire, having had earlier assignments in numerous countries, beginning in 1955.

The late Evangeline Dennis, who was born on November 9, 1933, died on October 3, 2020 in Falls Church, Virginia. She was the daughter of the late D.W. Baromi Morris, former Judge and Senator, who was also well-known for his musicianship, and the late Catherine “Kate” Ricks Morris, of Clay Ashland, Liberia, who was known for her extraordinary skills as a seamstress.

Over a thirty-year period, Mrs. Dennis served with grace alongside her husband in a “citizen diplomat” capacity, facilitating independently, many entrepreneurial opportunities of young Liberians around the world and connecting them to American and European markets to gain exposure. She was a mother/advisor to the Embassy staff wherever they were assigned, and a mother/guardian to many Liberian students studying abroad, especially those in Great Britain who lived with her family in Wimbledon, London, during their school vacations, over a seven-year period. Mrs. Dennis was known by everyone for her impeccable gift of hospitality at each Liberian Embassy where they served.

In 2011, upon the initiative and leadership of Mrs. Dennis, the Ambassador Francis A. Dennis, Sr. Memorial Library was established at the Foreign Service Institute of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Monrovia, Liberia. It was the goal of Mrs. Dennis to honor the life and accomplishments of Ambassador Dennis and support initiatives in the areas of Faith, Academics and Diplomacy, key areas where they made significant contributions in their lives. The library hosts several books, photographs and historical records.

Funeral Arrangements: On Saturday, November 14, 2020, at Eleven o’clock AM Eastern Standard Time (USA), Four o’clock PM Greenwich Mean Time, there will be an online, “virtual” Memorial Service for Mrs. Dennis: www.RememberingEvangelineDennis.com . At a later date, Mrs. Dennis will be laid to rest with Ambassador Dennis, in the Dennis Family Cemetery, Careysburg, Liberia.

Mrs. Dennis is survived by four children, Francis Alphonso Dennis, Jr, (Christine); Florence Charlotte Dennis-Huskin, (Lawrence); Beryl Evangeline Dennis; and Baromi Albert Dennis (Sharon), several grandchildren and great grandchildren; sister Mietta Morris Padmore, brothers David Morris and Momo Morris; in-laws Gershon and Williette Dennis Adorkor, Catherine Dennis Nylander; and several nieces and nephews.
