JOAN
"GODMA" CURTIS
With
deep regrets, the Bracewell -Turkett family
announces the passing of our mother, grandmother,
sister, aunty, and nurturing Godmother Ms. Joan
Curtis affectionately known as Godma of Athrington,
Liberia. This sad event occurred on the morning
of December 4, 2010 at the home of her daughter
in Logan Town, Liberia.
Godma
was preceded in death by her adopted mother
and 5 siblings: Mrs. Louise Bracewell Turkett
(mother), Andrew J. Turkett (Brother), Angelia
Turkett Gwehi(Sister), Melissa Turkett Maloney
(sister), Mattie G. Turkett(sister) and Amelia
B. Tyler(sister).
She
is survived by her sister Mrs. Henrietta D.
Artis of the United States, and her twin sister
Ma Sanikor of Monnoah(Bomi County). She leaves
to mourn her children: Rudy P. Turkett, Yvonne
A.C. Bracewell (Amos Bedell) and Richlue B.
Hill. Grandchildren: Rufus A. Turkett, Hawa
C. Turkett, Munah Bedell, Precious Bedell, Tina
Bedell and Nick Hill. Nephews and Nieces she
nurtured and helped raise:
Harold Willis(Littleboy), Adolf B. Hunter, Andrew
J. Turkett jr.(Nick), Julia Gibson (Oldmom),
Catherine Turkett (Special), Betty D. Wright,
Roland Davis and Arthur Jones. She is also survived
by her many nephews and nieces: sister Angelia's
children, sister Melissa's children, sister
Mattie's children, brother Andrew's children,
cousin AB Curtis' children and a host of relatives
and friends of Arthington, Monrovia(Logan Town),
Monnoah (Bomi County) and the United States.
Godma
demonstrated unconditional love for her family
throughout her life. She was never tired, never
seen with a frown and was always willing to
help and heal. To understand what true love
is, was to experience her love. We will truly
miss that one of a kind love. We are humble
and grateful that God blessed us with such a
wonderful human being, a true angel. We will
forever remain grateful and appreciative to
her. Her love lives on in our hearts and we
will cherish every moment we had with her. We
love you Godma! May your soul rest in peace.
The
Funeral service will take place at the A.
B. Anderson Funeral Home Chapel in Monrovia,
Liberia on Firday December 17, 2010. Viewing
of the body will begin at 9:00 am followed
by a celebration of life service at 10:00 am.
Internment will take place immediately
after at the Bracewell-Turkett Cemetery in her
home town of Arthington, where she will be laid
to rest next to her mother Louise.
