 Rachel Ann Elizabeth Cummings
The Butler, Gray, Greenfield, Hutchins and Cummings families announce the peaceful passing of our beloved mother and matriarch, Rachel A. E. Cummings, at the home of her daughter Henrietta Johnson in Ashburn, VA on May 28th, 2018.
Born in East Harper, Maryland County, Liberia, West Africa, she was a joyous blessing to Barbara Jane Butler Gray and James Benjamin Gray on August 14, 1921.
Ma Rachel, as she was affectionately called, leaves to mourn her children Rosalind B. Cummings, Henrietta B. Johnson, Rachel E. Cummings, Ralph A. E. Cummings (Mona), Edgar B. Cummings (Lena); her sister-in-law Melita Cooper Cummings; her aunt-in-law Ayo B. Cummings; and those she reared David Doe Cummings, and Victor Cummings; a host of grandchildren, great grandchildren, great great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, great nieces, great nephews, and cousins. She was predeceased by her parents Barbara and James Benjamin Gray; her siblings Cecelia Gray-Cox, Henrietta Gray-Bush, Beatrice Gray-Harmon, and Charles Gray; her sons Randolph Bransford Cummings Jr, James Benjamin Cummings, Prince McArthur Cummings and her foster daughter Christiana Cummings.
