Dr. S. Jabaru Carlon Dies

The Carlon, Fahnbulleh, Dagoseh, Seitua, Gbanna, Metzger, Korgbee families announce with deep regrets the passing of their husband, father, grandfather and uncle, Dr. S. Jabaru Carlon which occurred on Tuesday, October 21, 2014.

Dr. Carlon was born on December 31, 1935 in Bendaja, Kporkpa District, Grand Cape Mount County. He died while he was being transported to SOS Clinic in Congo Town, near Monrovia, Liberia.

Dr. Carlon, renowned educator, politician and statesman, was a Former Commissioner at the Governance Commission, headed by Dr. Amos C. Sawyer. He also served in 1985 as Unity Party Vice Presidential Candidate when the late Dr. Edward B. Kesselly was the standard bearer.

In the late 1970s Dr. Carlon also served as Director of Research & Policy at the Secretariat of the Mano River Union, headquartered in Freetown, Sierra Leone. When the Interim Government of National Unity was established, Dr. Carlon was appointed Minister of Youth and Sports under Dr. Sawyer.
As an educator, Dr. Carlon served as Director of African Studies at the University of Liberia (UL), where he taught for many years. In 1981, he was appointed President of Tubman Technical College (now Tubman University) in Harper, Cape Palmas, Maryland County.

He leaves to mourn his loss his wife of 47 years, Mrs. Edith Massa Carlon; eight children Dabbah, Satta, Kula, Tenneh, Wuyatta, Zue, Sandi, Dao and step son Romeo Williams.

Funeral arrangements are as follows:
On Friday, November 14, 2014 the body will be removed from the Samuel A. Stryker Funeral Home in Sinkor at 2 p.m. and taken to the St. Stephen Episcopal Church, 11th Street, Sinkor for two hours of wake keeping.

On Saturday, November 15, 2014 beginning at 9 a.m. Requiem Mass will be held over his remains at the church. The body will then be taken to Bendaja Town, Kporkpa District, Grand Cape Mount County for interment.
