Irene Victoria Clemens Bass
The Rev. Isaac Calhoun-Woods, Stewart, Clemens and Bass families announce with profound regrets the death of mother, aunt, sister and teacher, Irene Victoria Clemens Bass of Harrisburg, Liberia. Her home going occurred on Monday May 4th at 3:30pm at her residence in Cleveland, Ohio USA. Mother Bass was the last surviving great granddaughter of the pioneer Rev. Isaac Calhoun Woods Sr. who landed in Liberia on January 7, 1872 and settled in Brewersville, Montserrado county. She was 101 years old and 2 months and the oldest of 5 children. Her siblings, Joseph, Major, Jesse and Doris Clemens all predeceased her. Gregory Dafatama Bass, her 41 yr. old son also predeceased her. She is survived by 12 children, Pryde (Leslie), Elthon Gibson, Otterlee (Lafayette), James (Annie), Rhoda (Smart), Rev. Dogba (Marcia), Theophilus Lakafalamah Bass, Dorothy Jartu (Sylvester), Romeo Bass, Justin (Mazue), Kula (Albert), Maimah Bass; 31 grandchildren Charley, LeCharee, Pryde Jr, Emery, Ornette (Geeya), Rodney (Julie), Charwin, Schen (Shane), Quita, Janelle (Khalid), Egbe, Tracy, Ashley, Leemun, Kaimah Tina, Eleatee, Crystal, Elvis, Delores-Mai, Dunstanette, Oliver, Aloysius, Irene-Tylenn, Gregg, Victoria, Kpannah, Rhoda, Lamark; 43 great grandchildren and 2 great, great grandchildren, 40 nieces and nephews, 57 grand nieces and nephews, a host of other relatives and friends. Mother Irene V. Bass rendered 40 years of service to the education system in Liberia. She was a devoted member and a Sunday School Superintendent of the St. John United Methodist church in Harrisburg, Liberia. She served as Grand Treasurer of the Sisters of the Mysterious Tent(SMT) for a number of years and the degree of Most Worthy Grand Princess was later conferred upon her. She was a master designer of quilts and made quilts for family members on special occasions.
Due to the Covid crisis, attendance to this service will be limited to a small number of her immediate family.
