Dr. Joseph W. Bailey II
December 18, 1949 – October 20, 2016

The Bailey family announces with deepest sorrow the transition into eternal life of their dearest husband, father, "Apa", uncle, cousin, friend, and professor, Dr. Joseph W. Bailey II. His homegoing occurred on Thursday, October 20, 2016 in Savannah, Georgia, USA. Dr. Bailey was a light to all he met.

Dr. Bailey is survived by his wife of 42 years, Dr. Vera Cole Bailey; his daughters Ihuoma Bailey, Ngoanathabo "Thabo" Hall (Chris), Karama Bailey, Nayeede Bailey and countless adopted daughters; nephews Chike Cole and Joseph Cole, whom he raised; as well as his grandchildren Cole James Bailey, Vivienne Hall, Dalia Hall, Rueben Hall and Xavier Hall. He is also survived by his siblings Magdalene “Sugar” Bailey Coleman (Albert), Ellen “Tina” Bailey, Mai Bailey-Harris (Nostelda), Bennetta Bailey, Dolores Bailey-Wallace (Edward), Benjamin “Ben” L. Bailey (Maryadeh), Eddie Bailey and Saah J. Bailey (Agatha), and nieces, nephews, cousins, friends and beloved students.

He is preceded in death by his father Joseph W. Bailey, Sr., his mother Sarah Belinda Yancy-Bailey, his sisters Joyce W. Bailey and Priscilla A. Bailey, his brother Prince J. Bailey and nephew Albert Coleman, Jr.

May his soul and the souls of all the faithful departed, through the mercy of God, rest in peace. Amen.
