Ma Yassah Kollie Akoi

The Akoi, Dorbor, Selma and Saylee families of Kolliemai and Dowogomai towns, Lofa County in Liberia, announce with profound sorrow and regret the passing away in her 77th year of their mother, sister, aunt and grandmother, Ma Yassah Kollie Akoi. This mournful event occurred at her home on Staten Island on August 28, 2016 after a protracted struggle with illness.

In 2002, Ma Yassah Kollie Akoi travelled to the United States to be with her son, Sgt. Forkpah Mawoloyan Akoi. She resided on Staten Island where she remained until her demise. She was a devout Christian and worshiped at the Christ Assembly Lutheran Church on Staten Island, NY. Ma Yassah was a prominent residence on Staten Island and participated in the life and activities of the community in which she resided. Even with the struggles of illness and age, she supported her family in Liberia by engaging in marketing and selling Liberian food. She will be missed dearly, but we know God loves her best.

The late Ma Yassah Kollie Akoi leaves to mourn her loss her brother, Mr. Kollie G. Dorbor, her sister, Sonnie Selma, her loving children, Sgt. Forkpa Mawoloyan Akoi II, Kaibeh Torlo, Weedor Saybah and Yassah Konah; ten grandchildren, six great grandchildren, her grandniece, Varbah Korpo Konneh (Chris, Sr.) and God-daughter, Markind Clark (Frederick) commonly known as “Mamee”.
